1978 - Porsche 935/78 Moby Dick

:: Info

This is the Porsche 935/78 Turbo as raced in 1978, it had a short career; only 4 races. The 935/78 was nick-named 'Moby Dick' because of its body-shape.

It is powered by 3.2 litre turbocharged 6 cylinder boxer engine that produced between 700bhp and 900bhp depending on turbo-boost. This power and light weight (1030 kgs) and suberb aerodynamics push the car along at a staggering 230 miles per hour.

It debuted on the Silverstone 6 hours; the 935/78 broke the lap-record with 5 seconds and led from flag till flag. Le Mans was an anti-climax, the car showed it is speed but it was slowed by engine trouble finishing a creditable 8th. It was raced 2 times more but both times mechanical failure kept them from a win.

The 935-78 retired after four races and it rests in the Porsche museum now.
